Bill Hamid Is Back to D.C. United Through To the 2019 Season

After player one year for Midtjylland, Bill Hamid returns to D.C. United and will be playing for his debut team once more throughout the 2019 season. D.C. United has re-signed Hamid on a loan.

Hamid went Europe and joined Danish side FC Midtjylland at the conclusion of the 2017 season over an offer from Germany’s Eintracht Frankfurt. He wanted to test himself and this offer provided the best opportunity there was. He went there on a promise to start but returned a year later after making three appearances with Midtjylland all while backing Jesper Hansen.

The 27-years-old then decided to come back to his former team D.C. United in hopes of getting preferred to start over David Ousted, the Denmark native has started 16 out of 19 games for D.C. United this season and Steve Clark, who handled the other three.

“Bill moved to FC Midtjylland at the end of last year and it was an important step in his personal and professional development,” D.C. GM Dave Kasper said in a statement. “He’s a major part of the fabric of this club with his local ties, homegrown history, and on-field accomplishments so bringing him back on loan is a great acquisition as we make a push for playoffs at Audi Field.” In another statement, he stated, “He’s a leader on and off the field and we’re excited to welcome him back to the club he worked tirelessly for over eight seasons.”

Hamid joined the academy in 2007 and two years later in September 2009 became the United’s First Homegrown Goalkeeper. He played for D.C. United from 2009 to 2017 onwards. He has set a record of 184 starts, 66 wins, 642 saves and 49 shutouts. Then in 2014 he was nominated for MLS All-Star, was selected among MLS Best XI and was even named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. He has also earned six caps for the US national team, which includes three shutouts.

And if we go back a year there was a strong possibility for Hamid to have been one of the regular goalkeepers for the United States along with Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, and Nick Rimando, who are almost at the end of their careers.

When Bill Hamid appears on the field for the first time after his return to D.C United he will be entering a new era with a new number. Yes, it was decided that Hamid will be wearing Number 24 jersey in his second time with D.C. United team.

When he first played for the team he used to wear Number 28 jersey but that number is no more available for Joseph Mora currently wears that who was acquired by the team in the offseason this year. Hamid had a choice to choose the same number he used to wears with FC Midtjylland that is number 16 and also Number 14 but he chose to wear 24 instead.

Many fans who are hoping to see the player in his former number would be disappointed but the anticipation to see him play again for D.C. United remains the same. We hope that the new number will bring about new and better changes for the player as well as the team in coming years.
